Older Minifigs

NOTE: Many of these designs have been updated! Check out my NEW Mass Effect minifigs here!

The minifigs below were made using custom-designed decals by me. Don't forget to check my Shop for decals, weapons, instructions, and more!

The full Mass Effect 2 character lineup! The only characters excluded are Jacob, Jack, and the DLC character Kasumi. They were left out because the first is really boring, the second would be extremely hard to make, and the third was not released when I started designing these figs. I may come out with a series 2 of these at some point that could fill in these gaps...

One of the first things you will notice is the fact that they are all basically just minifigs. No specially-built alien parts, except for the Krogan head. That's because, really, almost all of the aliens in Mass Effect are approximately human size and shape. This seemed like the best solution overall, although I did try others. If only there were some reverse-joint leg pieces and a 'hair piece' that looked like spikes/tentacles coming off the back of the head (for turians and asari), I'd be satisfied...

And here is the Mass Effect 1 lineup. I went ahead and used my original Kaidan minifig (from my Mako creation) just because I was too lazy to make a new grey uniform for him, although I did design the decals for one. You may notice that Tali is still wearing her Mass Effect 2 outfit... this is because I'm lazy, and I couldn't come up with a good hood that was shaped more like her smaller one from ME1.

Mass Effect 2 allows you to customize the colors and parts of your N7 armor. Me, I chose the awesome really dark red color that's available. My usual companions on missions were Garrus Vakarian (who was way more awesome in the second game) and Miranda Lawson, at least initially.

You know, I only just now noticed that I forgot to give Miranda black arms? AAAARRRGHHH!

A couple of people have suggested that Garrus's head should be grey rather than tan. I did not like this as well in my prototype stages, but it might be worth another try. Perhaps I'll see how grey looks again if/when I make a 'round 2' of Mass Effect figs.

Yeah, I went ahead and designed a back decal for Garrus too, since I was not sure how to capture the big neck 'barrel' that all of the turians have going on.

I had more luck with the krogans, although this design wasn't a breeze to come up with. I went through several prototype stages before ending up with this one. I'm still not totally happy with the way Grunt turned out; I was trying to make him sleeker and shorter than Wrex, like he appears to be in the game, but his head did not work out quite right.

Urdnot Wrex and Grunt: the most badass character in the Mass Effect series next to Shepard himself... and a slightly less badass character. Don't get me wrong, Grunt was okay, but he just could not hold a candle to the awesomeness that is Wrex. Here, Wrex is wearing his Warlord armor that he wears when Shepard meets him in Mass Effect 2 as leader of the krogan on Tuchanka. What's that? You didn't meet Wrex there in Mass Effect 2? Then go play Mass Effect 1 and make sure Wrex doesn't die (all you need is a really high diplomacy or intimidate skill), and import your save game into the sequel, you big doofus! Can't believe anyone could stand letting Wrex die... the very idea...

One guy who tried to step into Wrex's shoes as 'grizzled, scarred badass who calmly kills people for money' was the DLC (Downloadable Content) character Zaeed Massani. But of course he still couldn't hold a candle to Wrex. He's good to have around though. The game did need someone who was a cold-hearted killer and never once whined to you about family issues.

Since I know a lot of you would otherwise be asking "how did you make the krogan?" here's the answer. Hopefully these instructional images make things clear enough.

Here are some more shots of the salarian scientist Mordin Solus, the asari justicar Samara, and the quarian machinist Tali. Also known as Tali'Zorah nar Rayya vas Neemah vas Normandy. Or whatever. Yes, Tali's hood was painted. I must admit, however, that I did touch it up a little in photoshop to get it to match LEGO's sand-purple color better than the actual paint did. Sorry if that sounds like cheating...

Not not totally happy with the way Mordin's head turned out,b ut if I can come up with a better design I'll try it out. Samara's torso decal has a lot of detail because she turned out being a much more likeable character than I was expecting. I'm not too crazy about the asari race (seems like it was made up entirely to be the dream species of any sci-fi nerd), but Samara was pretty cool. For one thing she's just about the only female character who won't sleep with Shepard. Talk about strong-willed... no other female in the galaxy can resist him!

The ladies of Mass Effect 1: Liara T'Soni and Ashley 'Ash' Williams (no, not the Bruce Campbell one, although I hear she will reference him). Ah yes, I remember trying to choose between these two romance options... Weak or strong? Scientist or soldier? Submissive or assertive? To Blue, or Not to Blue? That is the question... You might be disappointed to learn I usually pick the human romance choice. Sorry.

I actually wish that BioWare would stop emphasizing the romances so much. I used to think they were a nice touch, but now they're going a bit overboard. And I'm not talking about the 'sex scenes,' in which ME2 is lacking anyway. I'm talking about every character being a romance option, and that romance option being their main character development. Tali and Garrus are two of my favorite characters in the series, but since I don't really like them in that way, they stopped talking to me! Why, Garrus? Why must you always be calibrating...?

A WILD BONUS CHARACTER APPEARS! It's Saren Arterius, rogue Spectre and main villain of the original Mass Effect! I meant to give him a dark grey robot arm, but it appears I forgot at the last minute. Am I getting senile or something? Anyway, here he is fighting against my usual team from Mass Effect 1: Ash and Wrex. No one can stand against these three.

A closer look at Saren. I meant to give him a dark grey robot arm, but it appears I forgot at the last minute. Am I getting senile or something? Oh well. You probably noticed the weird fork-thing on his head. It's one of the hasansin claws from the Prince of Persia sets. This was done in an attempt to capture the spikes atop the turians' heads. I'm not quite sure if it was a total sucecss...

Keep an eye out for a possible round 2 of Mass Effect figs to fill in the gaps of this one and perhaps feature the 'alternate outfits' unlocked in loyalty missions!

Again, the minifigs below were made using custom-designed decals by me. Don't forget to check my Shop for decals, weapons, instructions, and more!
