Uruk-Hai Siege Ballista
(7-3-2004)

See the rubber band? Well, I originally wanted to use the rubber band to make it actually shoot, and it WILL do it... sort of. But it doesn't work very well. Not like an official LEGO set, or a happy meal toy, would...

This is not a good view to have of the Uruk-hai Siege Ballista. You remember that guy that got hit in the chest by it and was sent flying off the wall of Helm's Deep? I think he did that famous scream you hear in all the movies.

I have since made some grappling-hook-shaped spear heads using all of the tons of suggestions people have sent in since I first said I didn't know how to make one...

"Dang, wasn't this thing supposed to be lower?"
"Just load the bolt, you lazy sod!"

"Why couldn't we have gotten a troll or a warg to pull this thing?"

The model is based on the miniature one I bought. Those two by four plates on the back are used to crank the bolt into place.

The Ballista is my favorite type of siege engine... perhaps because it's also known by the name of Scorpion? Unfortunately, it usually stinks in strategy games. I hope you can put them to good use in the upcoming Lord of the Rings strategy game, the Battle for Middle-Earth.
EDIT: You certainly can. In fact, they're so good that it's highly annoying when the enemy uses them against your units!

Gandalf's Fireworks Cart
(12-23-2003)

This is just a simple custom of the cart full of fireworks that Gandalf rides into the Shire in The Fellowship of the Ring. I originally had planned to make all of the movies in LEGO form and play them out from beginning to end, which is why I made this cart. But in the end I decided that would be too much work. Still, here is the cart, anyway...
