The Return of the King Minifigs

The characters from the third movie, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, in LEGO minifig form. First posted 7-3-2004.

"Nineteen! Twenty! Twenty-one! Twenty-TWO!" - Gimli (The Two Towers, movie)

Here is a nice battle scene I set up, featuring most of my LotR figs... just for fun.

"This is no mere ranger! He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn... And heir to the throne of Gondor!" - Legolas (Fellowship of the Ring movie)

Here is Aragorn in his kingly garb. He dons this outfit when he rides to the Black Gates of Mordor to confront Sauron in order to give Frodo more time to destroy the One Ring. Since he is still a ranger and probably has a decent Dexterity, however, he decides to wear only chainmail for the dodge bonus to AC instead of donning field plate armor for battle (though he does put on plate armor just like Isildur's during his coronation).

"Men, wicked men, servants of Sauron..." - Gollum (movie)

To the left stands an Easterling, one of the armored guys that Sam and Frodo hide from in The Two Towers. I made him a custom chest and face decal. I didn't make any custom decals for the Haradrim to the right, however. he's one of the guys that rides on the backs of the Oliphaunts.

"'Faramir! The Lord Faramir! It is his call!' cried Beregond. 'Brave heart! But how can he win the Gate, if these foul hell-hawks have other weapons than fear?'" - The Return of the King (book)

This is Faramir in his Gondor armor. He wore this armor when he rode out to retake Osgiliath.

"Still she did not blench: maiden of the Rohirrim, child of kings, slender but as a steel-blade, fair yet terrible. A swift stroke she dealt, skilled and deadly. The outstretched neck she clove asunder, and the hewn head fell like a stone." - Return of the King (book)

Here is Éowyn in her Rohan battle armor. I used my only green cape for her. I wish I had more of those things.

"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!" - Théoden (Return of the King, book)

Theoden gave by far the best war speeches of the movie. "Now for wrath, now for ruin! And the red dawn!" The part where he rides up and down the ranks of his soldiers, clattering his sword on their spears, was actually a suggestion by the actor who played Theoden, Bernard Hill, who did a really good job by the way. This (lousy, low quality) picture shows all three of the main Riders of Rohan. First, on the left, is Théoden, the King. Then there is Eowyn in her armor disguise with Merry riding behind her. Finally, on the far right, there is Éomer, in his armor and helmet.

"I'm sure this is all just ceremonial. I mean... they don't really expect me to do any fighting... Do they?" - Pippin (movie)

As I promised in my Fellowship of the Ring page, here are Merry and Pippin in their armor. Much more unique and distinguishable, aren't they? Merry is wearing his Rohan armor and Pippin his Guard of the Citadel Gondor armor. It actually has a chainmail design on the edges, and so do many of my other characters, but it's hard to tell in these pictures.

"Certainty o' death... Small chance of success... What are we waitin' for?" - Gimli (movie)
