ODST Drop Pod

It's... a box. Since this was obviously a rather easy thing to make, it was one of my first Halo 2 creations, posted November 23, 2004. I built it in under an hour but was quite pleased with how it turned out.

The ODSTs, or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, were first introduced in the original Halo novel, Fall of Reach. They are named after their job of making hot drops to the planet's surface. Still, the brakes on these pods apparently work better than the ones on those "Lifeboats" the Pillar of Autumn used in Halo 1.

After all the ODSTs had been played up as awesome, bad-ass soldiers... they were actually pretty disappointing in the game. They're pretty decent fighters, but not much better than the Marines, if any. Certainly nothing to write home about. And you only even see them like once.

These "drop pods" are actually called SOEIVs, for 'Single Occupant Exo-atmospheric Insertion Vehicle,' or HEVs, for 'Human Entry Vehicle'.  They look quite cozy... like a coffin. Which is good for the soldiers who end up hitting the surface a bit too hard or in the wrong place, because then it ends up being one.
