Covenant Banshee Fighter

The Banshee was one of my earlier Halo 1 creations, first posted on 10/27/2003. At the time, I considered it one of the more difficult items from the game to make.

The 'Shee is by far one of the most fun vehicles to pilot in Halo, and among the great vehicles in this game, that's saying a lot! It can be rather annoying in multiplayer though, especially in Halo 1 for the PC. Annoying, that is, provided you are not the one piloting.

As you can see, the top/back of the ship opens wide to allow pilot entry, just like in the game.

The Master Chief seats himself in the cockpit by lying down flat - the same strange method used in the game. In this case, he is held in place by sticking the LEGO minifig's "toes" between the studs on the plate beneath him.

(Want to make your own custom minifigs? Don't forget to visit my decal shop, where you can buy the stickers I use to make mine!)

One thing I was always curious about was why the flaps on the back of the Banshee did not turn when the vehicle did. Judging by their appearance, this function seemed obvious to me. Perhaps I'm completely wrong, but I liked the idea, so I featured it on my LEGO model, as seen above.

For those who are interested, here's what my Banshee would look like if it was purple. Which, by the way, it is NOT. Sorry.

Apparently the LEGO company is about as crazy about the color purple as I am... which is to say, apparently they hate it.
